I am hoping that thinking "I take it that that's an expression of emotion rather than an objective evaluation?" will keep me from such arguments. (I don't mind argument as such, but lots of them are poor uses of time and energy, since I dislike being angry.)
And I hope that if I say it, I say it amiably.
